“I am honored to co-chair the Global advisory council of the TWG for the Nigerian National Cancer Control Plan, alongside other esteemed members.
The launch of the Cancer Free Nigeria 2030 campaign on April 2 signals a structured national effort to reduce the burden of cancer and strengthen systems for prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, and care. This aligns with the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) Planners Forum.
Warm congratulations to the Chair of the TWG, Prof Dr. Folakemi Odedina (PhD), and Secretary Dr. Uchechukwu Emmanuel Nwokwu, for their leadership.
Addressing gaps requires stronger implementation, better coordination, and accountability across all levels. The Federal Ministry of Health led by the Permanent Secretary and our Minister of State, deserves accolades for this current path.
We have already started a Social Determinants of Health Fund which is needed to address barriers beyond the health system. This aligns with our Care Wheels initiative at the Medicaid Cacner Foundation, where we provide free transportation support to cancer patients.
