Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, UICC President-Elect of 2024-2026, Founder and CEO of the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, shared a post with an article on LinkedIn:
“It was a pleasure to lead my team to a strategic engagement with the Director-General of the National Health Insurance Authority of Nigeria (NHIA), Dr. Kelechi Ohiri.
We discussed the critical need to improve national insurance for cancer prevention and treatment under the national insurance scheme to reduce the enormous out-of-pocket costs patients face.
Medicaid Cancer Foundation proposed a structured collaboration to strengthen public awareness and facilitate the enrollment of cancer patients into NHIA schemes.
We also highlighted the importance of integrating Hepatitis B interventions to prevent liver cancer, with insights from Dr. Danjuma Adda, former president of The World Hepatitis Alliance.
I am encouraged by the leadership of Dr. Kelechi and hus team’s commitment to expanding coverage. Ensuring financial protection and access to life-saving treatment for all cancer patients is a lifetime goal for me.”
