Congratulations to Katyayani Papatla, Sanjay Aneja, and Xiaomei Ma, recipients of 2026 Women’s Health and Cancer Research Pilot Project Awards. The award – newly introduced this year – was established in partnership with Yale Cancer Center and supports research assessing sex differences in cancer or female-specific cancers.
Drs. Papatla and Aneja will use the award for their interdisciplinary project, ‘Imaging Based Biomarkers and Predictive Modeling for Ovarian Cancers,’ which aims to create and validate a deep learning biomarker for ovarian cancer prognosis to better identify patients at highest risk of recurrence and who may benefit most from personalized therapy.
Dr. Ma is studying ‘Etiology and Outcomes of Early-Onset Breast Cancer: A Novel Study Leveraging a Large Birth Cohort,’ and will use the findings from her study to shed light on the risk factors for breast cancer in children and young adults, and pave the way for preventive strategies and interventions to reduce incidence and mortality.”
