“The 2026 Yale Cancer Center Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest honor bestowed within our organization. At this year’s Annual Awards Program, Mario Sznol, was presented with this honor by Roy Herbst.
Professor Emeritus of Medicine (Medical Oncology and Hematology), and co-director of the Yale SPORE in Skin Cancer, Dr. Sznol was recognized for more than 40 years of extraordinary contributions to oncology.
He co-authored two landmark papers in the New England Journal of Medicine that helped pave the way for FDA approvals and established immunotherapy as a cornerstone of modern cancer care, changing the lives of patients around the world. Beyond his scientific achievements and leadership across Yale Cancer Center, Dr. Sznol is widely admired for his deep compassion for patients, his generosity as a mentor, and the example he sets as a colleague and friend.
