“The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer 2026 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) is the world’s largest conference dedicated to lung cancer.
We often measure conferences by the sessions attended, the studies presented and the ideas brought home. But WCLC 2026 reminded me that some of the most meaningful moments happen between the scheduled ones.
A lunchtime conversation became a front-row seat to a rigorous-and thoroughly enjoyable-debate between two world experts. I was honestly a little starstruck!
Mentorship also came full circle. In 2024, the IASLC community invested in my growth through the IASLC Academy. This year, I returned to WCLC as a mentor in the IASLC International Mentorship Program, with the privilege of supporting a mentee Sun Xiangyu from China.
It reinforced something I have come to believe deeply: mentorship is more than advice. It is opening a door, making the unfamiliar feel navigable and helping someone recognise possibilities they may not yet see for themselves.
Beyond the conference halls, Seoul offered a different rhythm: a quiet morning prompted by the IASLC Wellness Challenge, temple roofs among the trees, and a hike with friends from Korea and India whom I first met through FARO.
Across these moments, one theme stayed with me:
- Connection makes the work human.
- Mentorship keeps opportunity moving.
- Reflection keeps purpose clear.
I return home grateful for the friendships that make the world feel smaller-and for a global community united in changing the story of lung cancer. The conference ends. The connections continue. What conference connection has stayed with you?
