Wafik El-Deiry, Director of Legorreta Cancer Center at Brown University and Chair of the WIN Consortium in Cancer Personalized Medicine, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“In my opening plenary presentation at the 2026 WIN Symposium, I shared our joint vision in the field of precision oncology to help patients with cancer today and in the future.
This requires collaboration by all stakeholders to address the issues patients face.
This year we had some focus on screening and prevention as well as on global issues patients face everywhere for access and affordability.
What is the best we can do for patients with cancer today with all the advances in medical science, technologies, and therapeutics?
Oncology patients today don’t have time to wait beyond benefit from standard of care and clinical trials.
What more can we do when treatment options run out or aren’t effective to begin with?
The WIN Consortium Molecular Tumor Board regularly brings together global leaders and experts in precision oncology along with sub-specialty disease experts to discuss and provide helpful information about possible options to consider.
Our Disease Committees established in the last two years provide a venue to discuss novel concepts and collaborate with colleagues around the world.
We are pursuing studies to demonstrate the value of precision oncology.
This includes analysis of real-world data through global collaboration, implementation of maturing clinical trial concepts that take advantage of AI, technologies including functional precision medicine, various precision oncology platforms and novel therapies.
The expertise within WIN and its global members includes vast clinical experience, expertise in first-in-human drug development, solving problems while advocating for patients.
The WIN Consortium has been active and will be expanding the outreach for the purpose of providing education in precision oncology.
We were fortunate to have with us the inaugural class of WIN Consortium Fellows from the US, Romania, and India at the 2026 WIN Symposium.
I invited the global participants to connect with each other, to collaborate in innovative ways for the future of the field of precision oncology.
The community is strong, like-minded, and determined to succeed in advancing precision oncology as an option for each patient.
WIN understands the challenges well and aims to impact on key aspects including regulatory issues, technology and drug access, access to experts, education, incentives for collaboration and always trying to incorporate the latest advances.
The vision of the WIN Consortium founders is alive and well. I welcome our colleagues from academia, professional societies, government, advocacy groups and industry to join the efforts of the WIN Consortium non-profit organization.”
