Wafaa M Rashed: Bridging Genomics and Policy in Africa Through the PAPERI Initiative

Wafaa M Rashed, Chair and Founder of Pan-African PGS Education and Research Initiative, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“I was honored to be invited by the The African Society for Dental and Craniofacial Genetics (ASDCG) to deliver a talk as part of their dental webinar series.

In my presentation, ‘Bridging Genomics and Policy in Africa: The PAPERI Initiative,’ I shared insights on the Pan-African PGS Education and Research Initiative (PAPERI), which aims to advance genomics in Africa through training, capacity building, research, and policy engagement.

We discussed key challenges, including the limited representation of African populations in polygenic risk score models, and explored the importance of strengthening data governance, policy frameworks, and cross-continental collaboration. It was particularly encouraging to engage with early career researchers interested in shaping the future of genomics in Africa.

The webinar has been uploaded on the African Society of Human Genetics (AFSHG) YouTube channel feel free to watch and share your thoughts!”
