Wafaa M Rashed: A Significant Step Forward for Genomics Policy in Africa

Wafaa M Rashed, Chair and Founder of Pan-African PGS Education and Research Initiative, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“A Significant Step Forward for Genomics Policy in Africa

I would like to share an important milestone in our collective journey toward a Genomics Policy for Africa — by Africans.

With sincere appreciation , I acknowledge Prof. Dr. Randa Mustafa , Faculty of Medicine, Egypt 🇪🇬, and Consultant to the President of the Pan-African Parliament, for her leadership and support in forwarding our formal request for a continental genomics policy framework to the President of the Pan-African Parliament, and for encouraging its consideration within a joint meeting of the Health and Education Committees.

This submission calls for:

  • A continental genomics policy framework aligned with Africa’s public health priorities
  • Stronger ethical, legal, and governance structures
  • Investment in African expertise, infrastructure, and cross-border collaboration

This moment reflects what becomes possible when advocacy, expertise, and institutions move together. We look forward to continued dialogue and constructive engagement as this process unfolds.

Genomics Policy for Africa — by Africans.”
