Vishwanath Sathyanarayanan: Leading Upper GI and HPB Updates 2026 as Organising Chairperson

Vishwanath Sathyanarayanan, Lead Oncosciences, Karnataka Region at Apollo Hospitals, shared Apollo Hospitals Karnataka’s post on LinkedIn, adding:

“Proud and grateful to have been part of Upper GI and HPB Updates 2026 as Organising Chairperson.

Two wonderful days of outstanding academics, meaningful discussions and collaboration with some of the finest minds in GI and HPB oncology.

A key takeaway is that the future of oncology lies in focused, disease-specific academic engagements and stronger multidisciplinary Disease Management Groups, translating evidence and innovation into better patient outcomes.

My heartfelt thanks to our Apollo leadership, distinguished faculty, delegates, industry partners, CPOEM, Horizon and the entire organising team for making this initiative a success.

An enriching experience, and hopefully the beginning of many more such collaborations!”

Quoting Apollo Hospitals Karnataka’s post:

“Reliving the highlights of Day 1 | Upper GI and HPB Updates 2026

Day 1 of Upper GI and HPB Updates 2026 took place on 31 October at ITC Windsor, Bengaluru. It brought together national and international faculty around the theme Transforming Care in Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and Upper GI Cancers: Innovation • Evidence • Multidisciplinary Care.

What Day 1 covered:

  • Hepatocellular Carcinoma: imaging, treatment pathways, liver resection and transplantation, immunotherapy, and the TACE vs SBRT debate
  • Biliary Tract and Gallbladder Cancer: the role of radiation, and “Knife First or Chemotherapy First?” in borderline resectable disease
  • Pancreatic Cancer: pushing surgical boundaries, mPDAC management, SBRT, and neoadjuvant therapy vs surgery first
  • The HPB Summit: multidisciplinary panels and case-based discussions bringing it all together
  • Rising Stars: young oncologists presenting a case in eight minutes to convince the jury

Global perspectives:

  • Dr. Lionel D’souza (Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York) on the evolving role of EUS in pancreatico-biliary cancers
  • Dr. Shubham Pant (MD Anderson Cancer Center, Texas) on metastatic pancreatic cancer in 2026, from cytotoxicity to KRAS
  • Dr. Harit Chaturvedi, CEO and Clinical Head, Apollo Oncology Network, on One Vision for Cancer Care: Excellence, Equity and Innovation

Thank you to Organizing Chairperson Dr. Vishwanath Sathyanarayanan, the organizing committee, our chairpersons, moderators, panelists, speakers and delegates for a day of rich and honest academic exchange. We are grateful to the Apollo leadership for the continued support.”
