Vincent Rajkumar, Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and Editor‑in‑Chief at Blood Cancer Journal, shared a post on X:
“Academic medicine is bleeding talent.
The best experts are continuing to retire or switch careers at an alarming rate. It’s folly to think that you can replace top talent easily — you will need 10 people to provide the level of productivity of one top talent.
The effects may not seem obvious. Because you seldom miss what you didn’t know you could achieve. But it will happen. In patient care, in research, and in the development of new treatments.”
