“Oncology leaders from 5 continents gather in Hong Kong to advance Cancer Control.
It is the World Cancer Congress organized by Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) with the support of World Health Organization, IARC – International Agency for Research on Cancer / World Health Organization, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
On the agenda are initiatives at the national or continental level that have worked and need to be adapted and replicated elsewhere. But also setbacks that deserve our attention.
More prevention, more equity of access to diagnosis and treatment, and more quality of life for the survivor.
For UICC each country needs to have its National Cancer Control Plan.
And Brazil has its own, published in December 2023.
On 10/26 I will be with leaders of oncology institutions from the 5 continents sharing how the public-private partnership of A.C.Camargo Cancer Center with the Ministry of Health via PROADI-SUS is helping in the implementation of this cancer control plan in Brazil.
Among the actions developed since 2025 are:
- Training of the 50 thousand Basic Health Units to allow primary care to increase its role in oncology
- Training of thousands of nurse navigators for all of Brazil
- Redesigning the infrastructure and processes of the cancer diagnostic network
- Standardizing methodologies for interpreting molecular tests
- Training specialist doctors from all over the country in the various specialties that care for cancer patients
- Supporting important discussions such as clinical pharmacy in oncology
In addition, I will bring you transformative topics that I learned in Hong Kong on a daily basis.”
