Ulrika Årehed Kågström, President of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and Secretary General of Cancerfonden, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“What a night it was! The TV4 final of Körslaget – Together against cancer resulted in a total of SEK 108 million for cancer research.
In addition to becoming monthly donors, TV viewers could vote for their favorite – and the winner was Sönerna, with Linnea Henriksson as choir leader.
Eric Saade and Pernilla Wahlgren led the viewers through an evening filled with music from artists such as Moonica Mac, Sven-Ingvars, Estraden and Petter. And strong stories showed how important cancer research is.
Thanks to research, more and more people are surviving their disease. But still one in three will be affected by cancer during their lifetime. Some who have been affected themselves shared how life is affected by cancer. Stories that both touched and gave hope.
The evening was filled with commitment, hope, joy and tears, as we gathered strength to become more people who are involved in defeating cancer.
Today, 75 percent of those who receive a cancer diagnosis survive. When Cancerfonden was formed 75 years ago, only one in three survived.
And if we look ahead, the goal is for 80 percent to survive by 2030. To get there, research must continue. We know that the next advancement is just around the corner.
A warm thank you to everyone who got involved and contributed during the evening. Welcome all new monthly donors – and thank you to those who were already involved! Thank you to all companies and individuals who donated great gifts. Thank you to everyone who bravely shared their experiences of what it’s like to live with and after cancer.
Thank you to all the artists, choirs, jury and presenters. And not least: Thank you all researchers, for making a difference – for us here and now, and for future generations.”
