Tunch Akmandor: Building the Future of Skin Cancer Care Through Education and Collaboration

Tunch Akmandor, PhD candidate in Cancer Immunotherapy and Drug Delivery at Middlesex University, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Great cancer centres do more than treat patients – they help shape the future of cancer care.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of participating in the EADO Skin Cancer Centers of Excellence Preceptorship 2026 at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Josep Malvehy.

Bringing together clinicians, researchers, and future leaders in dermato-oncology from across Europe, the programme provided a unique opportunity to explore how a world-leading skin cancer centre integrates clinical excellence, multidisciplinary collaboration, research, innovation, education, and prevention to deliver outstanding patient care.

As someone working across oncology, pathology, translational research, and medical education, it was both inspiring and motivating to learn from internationally recognised experts who are advancing the field of melanoma and skin cancer management.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the programme was the highly interactive format. Through case discussions, expert-led sessions, and conversations with colleagues from across Europe, I gained valuable perspectives on how different healthcare systems approach skin cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and research. These exchanges highlighted the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing in tackling the challenges of modern oncology.

Experiences like these reinforce the importance of international collaboration in accelerating innovation, improving patient outcomes, and developing the next generation of cancer specialists.

A sincere thank you to EADO – European Association of Dermato-Oncology, European Association of Dermato-Oncology, Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, Prof. Josep Malvehy, and Almirall, Almirall Hermal GmbH for supporting this exceptional educational initiative and investing in the future of dermato-oncology.

I look forward to applying these insights to my ongoing work in cancer research, pathology, and translational medicine.

Barcelona, Spain ”
