“Local therapies have an important role in multimodal cancer care and in the pursuit of organ preservation.
For selected patients, integrating local treatment with systemic therapy can help address individual sites of disease while supporting a broader strategy focused on cancer control, organ function, and quality of life.
The challenge is deciding which treatment, for which patient, and at what point in their care.
That requires multidisciplinary collaboration: understanding tumor biology, the response to systemic therapy, the feasibility of local treatment, and what matters most to the patient.
Histotripsy from HistoSonics, Inc. is one example of an evolving local therapy, using focused ultrasound to mechanically destroy targeted liver tumor tissue. This photo captures colleagues exploring the technology together the kind of shared learning needed to thoughtfully integrate new approaches into cancer care.
As our options expand, we must evaluate how each contributes to meaningful patient outcomes and opportunities for organ preservation.
Join us in Las Vegas, October 23 – 25, for Advances and Innovations in Endoscopic Oncology and Multidisciplinary GI Cancer Care. It will be a pleasure to learn together, explore the role of local therapies, and watch a live histotripsy demonstration.”
