Todd Harper: SunSmart Celebrates 30 Years Of Protecting Children From Skin Cancer

Todd Harper, CEO at Cancer Council Victoria, Director of Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), shared on LinkedIn:

“It was wonderful visiting a member of the Sun Smart Early Childhood program in Cranbourne to celebrate the 30th anniversary of this remarkable program.

Together with Pauline Richards and SunSmart’s Emma Glassenbury we visited one of the early participants in the program, Cranbourne Day Care and Kindergarten.

Skin cancer is one of our most preventable cancers. And we know that protecting children from sun damage during the childhood years can significantly reduce lifetime skin cancer risk.

That’s why our Sun Smart program has spent the past 30 years working with Victoria’s early childhood sector – helping hundreds of thousands of Victorian children and their families to develop healthier sun protection behaviours from a young age.

Remarkably, 9 in 10 Early Childhood Services in Victoria are Sun Smart members.

We thank the Victorian Government for its ongoing commitment to this program and protecting the health of Victorian children.
