The Regional Africa Best of St. Gallen Breast Cancer Conference 2026 will take place on October 1–2, 2026, at Hilton Cairo Grand Nile, Cairo, Egypt, bringing together breast cancer specialists for specialized sessions, pre-congress workshops, and consensus discussions focused on advancing breast cancer care in Africa.
The programme will feature Basic Radiotherapy and Digital Pathology workshops, as well as hands-on sessions on Breast Ultrasound, Interventional Procedures, Contrast-Enhanced Soft Tissue Mammography, and Supportive Care. The conference will feature 18 speakers, including keynote speakers Prof. Heba Gamal, Prof. Michael Gnant, Prof. Beat Thurlimann, and Prof. Sybille Loibl.
Pre-Congress Workshop: Digital Pathology and Basic Radiotherapy
The Regional Africa Best of St. Gallen Breast Cancer Conference 2026 will begin with workshops dedicated to practical training in digital pathology and radiotherapy.
The Digital Pathology Workshop will feature a Hands-On Computational Digital Pathology Workshop (In Partnership with AFSDP) from 10:00 to 14:00, with Prof. Bassma Elsabaa and Prof. Khadiga Ali. The programme will continue with a Digital Pathology Symposium by Leica Biosystems, followed by keynote presentations including “National Digital Pathology Project: From Implementation to Execution” by Prof. Manal ElMahdy and “Digital Pathology for All: A Low-Resource Roadmap” by Prof. Azza AbdelAziz.
The workshop programme will also include a Leica Biosystems symposium and a Q&A session.
A parallel Basic Radiotherapy Workshop (Hands-On) will also be offered as part of the pre-congress programme.
Day 1: Scientific Updates, Early Breast Cancer and African Implementation
The first main conference day, Thursday, October 1, will begin with Registration & Welcome Coffee, followed by the Opening Ceremony and Keynote Lecture, with Dr. Heba Gamal, NCI (Egypt).
The scientific programme will continue with “Minimizing the Burden of Treatment in Early Breast Cancer,” featuring Prof. Giuseppe Curigliano (Italy), Prof. Abdullah Jebreil (Libya), Prof. Duvern Ramiah (South Africa), and Prof. Michael Grant (Austria).
The next session, “Personalizing Early Breast Cancer Treatment / MDT Masterclass on Early Breast Cancer,” will feature Prof. Omar Abdihamid (Kenya), Prof. Sherif Naguib, Prof. Emad Shash, Prof. Ahmed Magdy, and Prof. Loay Kassem.
Following the Opening Ceremony and coffee break, the afternoon will feature “Immunotherapy & Triple Negative Breast Cancer,” with Prof. Hamdy Abd El Azim (Egypt), Prof. Abeid M. Athman Omar (Kenya), Prof. Abdullah Jebreil (Libya), Prof. Mosheera Mohamed Ossman (Sudan), and Prof. Dafallah (Sudan).
The programme will then address “Optimizing Endocrine Treatment in Early Breast Cancer,” presented by Prof. Tamer El Nahas.
The afternoon will continue with “Screening & Early Detection of Breast Cancer in Africa,” featuring Prof. Ashraf Selim, Prof. Naglaa Abdelrazek, Prof. Maha Helal, and Prof. Sahar Mansour.
The day will conclude with “HR+/HER2− Breast Cancer,” featuring Prof. Alaa Kandil, Prof. Dr. med. Beat Thürlimann (Switzerland), Prof. Mohamed Abdullah Ali (Somalia), Prof. Heba El Zawahry (Egypt), and Prof. Amr Shafik (Egypt), SERD Trial PI, Egypt, followed by a satellite symposium and the Official Conference Dinner at the Nile Terrace, Hilton Cairo Grand Nile.
In parallel, the African Implementation Forum will address “The Economics of Modern Breast Cancer Care: Balancing Innovation, Access and Sustainability” through an Interactive Expert Forum, followed later by “Research Challenges in Africa (Infrastructure, Clinical Trials & Innovation).”
Day 2: Advanced Breast Cancer, Hereditary Disease and Consensus
The second main conference day, Friday, October 2, will begin with registration, followed by “Locally Advanced Breast Cancer & NAST,” featuring Prof. Sibylle Loibl (Germany), Prof. Mariza Tunmer (South Africa), Prof. Michael Knauer (Switzerland), and Prof. Maria João Cardoso (Portugal).
Following the coffee break and satellite symposium, the programme will continue with “HER2+ Breast Cancer,” featuring Prof. Dr. med. Beat Thürlimann (Switzerland), Prof. Zsuzsanna Bagó-Horváth (Austria), Prof. Dr. med. Sibylle Loibl (Germany), Prof. Mohamed Abo El Fottouh (Egypt), Prof. Tamer El Nahas (Egypt), and Prof. Farah Yusuf Farah (Somalia).
After the Friday Prayer and Coffee Break, the programme will feature “Young and Hereditary Breast Cancer,” with Prof. Hatem Abdelazim (Egypt), Prof. Hazem El Mansy (Egypt), Prof. Maria João Cardoso (Portugal), and an Egyptian speaker on Clinical Genetics (TBC — TBA). The panelists listed are Dr. Omnia Korani, Dr. Heba Bakry, Dr. Raghda Yehia, and Dr. Hager Elghazawy (Egypt).
The afternoon will then feature “Controversy of the Controversies (Consensus Panel)”, followed by the Africa Best of St. Gallen Implementation Consensus Forum — Part I: Adapting Global Guidelines to African Practice.
The programme will continue with Consensus Forum — Part II: Interactive Consensus Voting, bringing the conference’s consensus discussions to a close.
