Teresa Amaral: Making Access to Clinical Trials a Reality for Every Patient

Teresa Amaral, Vice-Chair of SAG Oncology at the European Medicines Agency, Head of Early Phase Clinical Trials, Skin Cancer and Sarcoma Program at Institute Strauss, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Today it’s International Clinical Trials Day ICTD.

Having access to medical innovation is still not evident to all patients, particularly patients with cancer. The access is fragmented and, in many cases, connected with geographical location. This is something we would not expect to happen in Europe in 2026, but it is a reality.

At ESMO – European Society for Medical Oncology, in partnership with the Industry (ESMO Industry Strategic Forum – EISF), we examined this topic by looking at the clinical trials distribution and can clearly see asymmetry, with differences in access of up to 60x between countries.

If you want to take a detailed look at the report, follow the link.

Today is as good as any other to reflect on how we can make access a reality for everyone who needs it, and not a post code lottery.”
