Teresa Amaral: Challenges Surrounding Gene Expression Profiling Tests in Melanoma

Teresa Amaral, Vice-Chair of SAG Oncology at the European Medicines Agency, Head of Early Phase Clinical Trials, Skin Cancer and Sarcoma Program at Institute Strauss, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“The aftermath of the EADO – European Association of Dermato-Oncology congress in Prague. My talk was about the GEP in skin cancer, particularly melanoma.

I focused on the challenges and the still-open questions surrounding this type of assay, and on how we, as a community, can address them in a way that makes sense for both the patients and physicians who use them.

I believe these assays could help us identify patients with an excellent prognosis, and, by doing so, we could potentially adjust how we perform follow-up in this group, redistributing the healthcare resources.

I also referred to the ongoing campaign by Euromelanoma International to bust myths about skin cancer! Check them out for this timely topic.

Thanks to Susana Puig for chairing this session with me and to the great organizing committee for the invitation.

Now, back to work!”
