Tanja Spanic, Executive Director of Europa Donna Slovenia, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Keynote lecture at the 62nd Oncology Congress in Belgrade, Serbia.
“Lifetime journey and paradigm shift in breast cancer understanding and treatment” by Alberto Costa, European School of Oncology. We had the privilege to listen to Alberto Costa, whose lifetime dedication to breast cancer treatment, education and advocacy has shaped how we understand and treat the disease today. Key messages that I got from the lecture:
- The evolution of breast cancer treatment from radical approaches to increasingly personalized patient-centered care.
- The importance of multidisciplinary collaboration, bringing together surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, researchers, and patients.
- How early detection and awareness continue to save lives, yet require continuous improvement and equitable access.
The role of education – for professionals and patients alike – as a cornerstone of progress. And more than 30 years ago Alberto Costa and Umberto Veronesi were the initiators of EUROPA DONNA – The European Breast Cancer Coalition. Being part of this congress, surrounded by experts and people dedicated to making a difference, is a meaningful reminder of how far we have come and how much more we can achieve together.”
