Susanna Fletcher Greer: Transitions in Science and in Life

Susanna Fletcher Greer, Chief Scientific Officer at the V Foundation, shared on LinkedIn:

“Science is a lifelong journey, and at every stage, there’s a way to give forward.

As the seasons start to change, (even in Atlanta we’ve had a few, crisp mornings!), I’ve been reflecting on transitions in science and in life.

Yesterday I was lucky to reconnect with two colleagues from my Georgia State days. One commented on how hard it can be for scientists to “let go”, because research is not just what we do, it’s who we are. Stepping away from the lab often feels like leaving behind part of our identity.

At the V Foundation we support scientists across the entire career journey, from early-career investigators with big, bold ideas to scientists well into their careers whose leadership and experience continue to move cancer research forward. All are essential to progress.

But equally important, is finding ways to give forward. Science has always been an apprenticeship. We are shaped by those who trained us, and we, in turn, shape those who come next.

Seasons change, careers shift, but what endures is the drive to push cancer research forward. I am honored to help support scientists at every stage, and to help ensure the next generation has the space and support to thrive.”
