Gait speed and outcomes in older patients with cancer
Can a simple gait speed test help predict survival in older adults with cancer?
In this prospective cohort of patients with head and neck cancer, lower usual and fast gait speed were associated with higher one-year mortality. Patients walking <1 m/s had more than double the risk of death within a year.
More complex measures did not add predictive value.
These findings support the use of simple gait speed assessment in routine practice.
