“The past six months have flown by! From stepping into this role in March, ELCC, ASCO and everything in between – our lung franchise continues to deliver real scientific progress that is changing what’s possible for patients. This kind of momentum reshapes how you think about what comes next.
The pace of it all has made me reflect on the people who helped me get here. From my mother, my earliest mentor, who showed me that real strength and real generosity go hand in hand, to the many individuals who opened doors I didn’t know existed, shared their perspective when I didn’t ask, and trusted me with things before I felt ready for them.
Those investments compound and paying them forward never feels optional.
Looking back on the first half of this year, launching AstraZeneca’s Oncology Women’s Network (AZOWN) in partnership with Nilsa Sanchez and Shira Gerver, as our global initiative dedicated to developing the next generation of female leaders in oncology – is a clear highlight. From our first leadership dinner in May to our official launch at ASCO in Chicago, I’m beyond excited to continue the momentum with a focus on building connections, accelerating skills and amplifying the voices of our future female leaders.
AZOWN was built on the belief that mentorship must be intentional. Access to opportunity is not evenly distributed, and it falls to us to build the conditions where relationships that transform careers can actually take root. To me, this intentionality is one of the most meaningful things we can carry as leaders. Thank you to Aradhana Sarin, Sunil Verma, Mohit Manrao, Kara McNulty, Tania Molinaro, Roula Qaqish, Kami Tippy, Laurice El Arif, Brooke Bernal and Felicia Flowitt for being a big part of this bringing this vision to life.
This work matters beyond careers. The leaders we are developing today are the people who will shape the science and care that patients access tomorrow. Mentorship is not separate from that work. It is part of it.”
