Shernan Holtan, Chief of Blood and Marrow Transplantation and Professor of Medicine at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, shared a post on X:
“My coauthor lifts more than your coauthor.
Jason is more than a strength and conditioning coach. He’s now a coauthor on our manuscript showing normalization of immune cells’ transcriptome, methylome, and intestinal microbiome in cancer survivors after 10 weeks of resistance training!
The teamwork between colleagues at UMN, OHSU, and now Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center has been ongoing, from grant writing, study design, enrollment, and correlative studies since 2017. We had hoped to enroll a lot of participants, but COVID ruined our plans.
Instead, we focused the on learning what strength training can do for a cancer survivors’ immune system. Turns out the answer is a lot of good things!
Paper is published now in Cancers. Check it out!”
