“It has been a while since I last shared an update.
One of the most significant milestones for cancer services in Uzbekistan this year was the signing of Presidential Decree No. PP-238 by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 24 June 2026.
This landmark decree launched comprehensive measures to strengthen the prevention, early detection, and treatment of oncological diseases under a new National Cancer Control Program.
The National Cancer Control Plan, developed with the participation of the World Health Organization and international experts, aims to bring oncology services closer to international standards while improving access to quality cancer care across all regions of the country.
This achievement reflects the power of collaboration, commitment, and a shared vision for improving the lives of people affected by cancer. My sincere appreciation goes to the Government of Uzbekistan and the oncology experts at the Republican Cancer Centre for their dedication, resilience, and leadership in developing this important plan.
Special thanks to Dr. Rolando Camacho, WHO Consultant for National Cancer Control Plan development, for his sustained guidance and technical expertise, as well as to colleagues at WHO Headquarters and the WHO Regional Office for Europe, and all partners supporting cancer control efforts in the country.
Sincere gratitude to colleagues at the WHO Country Office for their unwavering support to this activity.
