Ryan R. Lion: Strengthening Childhood Cancer Care in Senegal Through the National PrOFILE Workshop

Ryan R. Lion, Clinical Fellow in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“An incredible week in Dakar focused on one shared goal: improving outcomes for children with cancer in Sénégal

It was a true honor to lead the national PrOFILE workshop in Sénégal alongside an extraordinary group of colleagues and partners hosted by the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene. We brought together clinicians, nurses, pharmacists, hospital leaders, Ministry of Health representatives, foundation partners, and many other stakeholders to review findings and develop shared priorities to strengthen childhood cancer care.

Thank you to all participants who contributed their expertise over these two days. A special thank you to our incredible PrOFILE champions Fatou Binetou Diagne Akondé and Mame Ndella Diouf, whose leadership made this workshop possible. Thank you to our amazing St. Jude Global Sub-Saharan Africa team and leadership (Gita Naidu, Nickhill Bhakta), our ALSAC colleagues (Piera C.), World Health Organization partners (Eric RUCOGOZA, Mamadou Seye), the GFAOP (Laila Hessissen) for regional expertise and commitment, and so many others who helped across various components (Ndeye fatou Sow, Mbaye Sarr).

Finally, my sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene for their engagement, partnership, and support. There is so much exciting work ahead for children with cancer in Sénégal. I look forward to building on the momentum from this workshop as we work together to expand access to high-quality childhood cancer care.”
