Runcie C.W. Chidebe, Executive Director at Project PINK BLUE, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Dear LinkedIn Family,
I am so delighted to share that I have been appointed a Guest Editor for the Journal of Applied Gerontology Special Issue titled ‘Cancer and Aging: Advancing Research and Care for Older Adults.’
In 2020, of the 19.3 million new cancer cases worldwide, 64% occurred in individuals aged 60 and above, contributing to 71.3% of cancer-related deaths. Cancer incidence and deaths are projected to rise significantly among older individuals, reaching 20.7 million new cases and 12.7 million deaths by 2040.
While so much data and research exist on cancer across all ages, there is a considerable gap in cancer and aging. For this reason, this special issue welcomes submissions that explore challenges and innovations in areas such as cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, caregiving, end-of-life, and the pervasive impact of health disparities and inequities among older adults. Studies may be qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods, or conceptual in nature and should reflect relevance to both gerontology and oncology.
Submission Guideline: Email a ≤150-word unstructured abstract to all guest editors (emails below). If invited, you’ll submit the full manuscript in ScholarOne under the special-issue type.
Key dates:
Abstracts due: January 16, 2026
Invitations for full papers: February 9, 2026
