Ronald Chen: Renewal Application for NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center Designation

Ronald Chen, Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“This year, we’re submitting a renewal application for the National Cancer Institute (NCI)’s comprehensive cancer center designation for The University of Kansas Cancer Center.

We have spent the whole year working on this application.

It started with an external advisory board visit, where we received feedback on the first draft of our renewal application. And we’re now working on revisions before the September deadline.

This is our first renewal grant since we were awarded the NCI comprehensive designation in 2022.

Our application highlights the hard work we’ve done over the past five years (and more), like:

  • The high-quality research we’ve conducted.
  • The number of individuals we enrolled onto cutting-edge clinical trials
  • The impact we have made on reducing the impact of cancer on our community across the state of Kansas and Western Missouri

This is a submission of over 2,000 pages from different aspects of our cancer center programs, teams and leaders.

It’s our mission to showcase the impact we’ve made to our community and the greater cancer research ecosystem.

Although writing this application is a lot of work – many many hours spent – the process has also filled me up with pride. We have accomplished so much over the past 5 years The University of Kansas Cancer Center, really making an impact in our region and beyond.”
