Robin Toft: San Diego Has Become a Leading Cancer Research Hub for the World with 3 NCI-Designated Cancer Centers

Robin Toft, Chief Executive Officer at Curebound, Global Life Sciences and Boardroom Diversity Advisor at ZRG Partners, Impact Investor and LP at How Women Invest, shared a post on LinkedIn:

San Diego has become a leading cancer research hub for the world based upon our uniquely collaborative ecosystem, including 3 NCI-Designated Cancer Centers, all Curebound partner institutions. See my Cancer World article attached. In San Diego, our unique constellation includes:

UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center: The region’s only NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center (designated in 1978, comprehensive in 2001). It provides comprehensive clinical care, patient trials, and research, with cancer services ranked number 1 in San Diego for 2025-2026.

Salk Institute for Biological Studies: An NCI-designated Basic Laboratory Cancer Center since 1973, it is one of seven such centers in the U.S. focused on foundational research, celebrating 50+ years of NCI support in 2023.

Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute: An NCI-designated Basic Laboratory Cancer Center since 1981, it focuses on laboratory research and drug discovery, earning a merit extension in 2025 for its cancer center program.

Thank you ALL for the great work you do every day – we are proud to support you!”
