“It was a privilege to join Mary Ellen Podmolik, Dan Peres, and health care leaders at Modern Healthcare’s Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C., for a timely discussion on what it means to lead through upheaval.
We are living in a remarkable era of progress: More than 70% of people diagnosed with cancer now live at least five years. Yet nearly 40% of Americans are expected to receive a cancer diagnosis during their lifetime, and only 20% of patients are treated at an NCI-designated cancer center.
These numbers underscore a fundamental truth: Scientific breakthroughs only matter if patients can access them. That means bringing advanced expertise, clinical trials and the latest treatments closer to people wherever they live and collaborating across industries.
At City of Hope, our focus is clear. Patients should never have to choose between the best science and the most human care. As leaders, we must match optimism with urgency and ensure that innovation translates into better outcomes for more people.”
