Ravindran Kanesvaran: Honored to Welcome President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to NCCS and Singapore Cancer Society

Ravindran Kanesvaran, Chairman of the Division of Medical Oncology at the National Cancer Centre Singapore, and Distinguished Professor of Geriatric Oncology at Duke-NUS Medical School, shared a post by Kwang Cheak Tan, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Cancer Society, on LinkedIn, adding:

Honored to welcome President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to National Cancer Centre Singapore and the Singapore Cancer Society last week.

As Patron, his visit reaffirmed the importance of a whole-of-journey approach to cancer care – from prevention and treatment to rehabilitation and survivorship.

We shared SCS’ Strategic Plan 2030 and our collective focus on holistic, person-centred care. His engagement with patients, survivors and teams was deeply encouraging. Grateful for his continued guidance and support as we work together to help people live well beyond cancer.”

Quoting Kwang Cheak Tan‘s post:

We were deeply honoured to host President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at our HQ and cancer rehab centre at NCCS yesterday. President Tharman is our Patron and has been providing his strong support and guidance to SCS, our cancer community and cause.

When we briefed him at the Istana in Feb 2025, we also highlighted our intent to embark on a strategic review of SCS’ directions that year. This review was completed towards the end of last year, after a nine month process, and our Council approved our Strategic Plan 2030, with our refreshed vision, mission and strategic focus areas.

At this visit, we updated President on our Strategic Plan 2030 and what we were focusing on in terms of our key focus areas and outcomes in the next few years. His guidance and advice were very important for us. He then visited our CAmpung Cafe and interacted with our cancer warriors and survivors who were in an art psychotherapy programme, as well as, toured our community rehab centre and heard from our clients the impact and importance of cancer rehab to their recovery journey and quality of lives.

His last stop was at the NCCS-SCS Rehabilitation Centre where he met Soon Thye, CEO of NCCS and the NCCS team and saw the operations of this facility which he opened back in June 2024.

Thanks much to President Tharman, as well as, PPS Julius and his Istana team. The visit reaffirmed our focus to support our cancer public and patient on their journeys from well to end of live and to deliver holistic, person-centred, empowered care that help all to overcome cancer and live well.”
