Rasha Aboelhassan: What Truly Makes a Cancer Centre Successful?

Rasha Aboelhassan, Council Member at International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, Senior Oncology Consultant at Nasser Institute Hospital, shared on LinkedIn:

“One of the thoughts that stayed with me after my visit to the Baheya Breast Cancer MDT during the 9th BBCC was this:

  • What truly makes a cancer centre successful?
  • Is it giving the best available lines of treatment?
  • Is it achieving the best overall survival?
  • Is it having big names or celebrities associated with cancer care?

For me, these are important – but they are not the ultimate measure of success.

What impressed me most was seeing a new generation of young oncologists who are professional, engaged, and learning within a strong multidisciplinary environment.

I believe the real success of a cancer centre is its ability to build the next generation and transfer knowledge, experience, values, and clinical wisdom from one generation to the next.

Because excellence in cancer care should not depend on a few individuals.

True excellence is when experience becomes a legacy – and that legacy continues through generations.

This was one of my most valuable reflections from the 9th BBCC.”
