Brittany Ragon: Rachna Shroff Remembered for Her Compassion, Leadership, and Lasting Impact

Brittany Ragon, Associate Professor at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, shared on LinkedIn:

“I had the privilege of spending time in clinic with Rachna Shroff, during my fellowship at UT MD Anderson. I observed a human who often had little good news to share but felt strongly about leaving every person with hope when she left a room. She was extraordinary.

I remember getting this postcard in my mailbox in May of 2021 and reflecting on how our brief interactions had a lasting impact on my career. I shared with her how fierce she was staring back at us all on this postcard.

And in September, while attending the Leadership, Empowerment, And Development (LEAD) Conference that she co-chaired, we were informed by the Vaniam Group that her Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation – Rachna Shroff, Endowed Young Investigator Award in Biliary Cancers had been fully funded, and just as importantly, she was on college tours with her family. I audibly released the breath I was holding, knowing that she got to see this come to fruition. Her legacy will endure, and once again, she leaves us with hope.

We thank you for your legacy, Rachna Shroff, your kindness, your welcoming spirit, your inclusion of all, your brilliant research and compassionate care, your devotion to your family and friends, the many celebrations you planned, and all you shared with us.

What has happened is heartbreaking and difficult to comprehend, but it’s true. And so we will keep working, fiercely, for Rachna Shroff.

My thoughts are with the oncology community (American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)), but most especially those who shared time close to the glorious sun that was Rachna Shroff, Nina Shah, Naveen Pemmaraju and her family.”
