ICR Has Been Awarded the Queen Elizabeth Prizes for Education for Radiotherapy Research

The Institute of Cancer Research – ICR shared a post on LinkedIn:

“We’re proud to announce that The Institute of Cancer Research, London, has been awarded the Queen Elizabeth Prizes for Education (formerly Queen’s Anniversary Prizes) for our pioneering radiotherapy research.

This national honour recognises decades of collaborative work that has transformed radiotherapy into a highly targeted, personalised treatment—improving outcomes for patients worldwide.

From landmark clinical trials to cutting-edge technologies like MR Linac, our research has shaped global standards, reduced treatment times, and saved the NHS millions annually.

The Queen Elizabeth Prizes for Education are part of the UK’s national honours system, recognising outstanding work by UK colleges and universities which demonstrates excellence and innovation and delivers real benefit to the wider world.

First awarded in 1994, the Prizes are granted every two years by the Sovereign on the advice of the Prime Minister following a rigorous and independent process of review carried out by the Royal Anniversary Trust, an independent charity.

The winners of the sixteenth round were announced at St James’s Palace this evening and the Prizes will be presented at an investiture ceremony in February 2026.

A huge thank you to our scientists, clinicians, and partners at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust for making this possible.

Professor Kristian Helin, Chief Executive of The Institute of Cancer Research, London, said:

‘We are honoured to receive a Queen Elizabeth Prize for Education, which recognises the worldwide impact of our research advances in radiotherapy. This recognition reflects our commitment to innovation, collaboration, and ensuring that scientific discovery delivers real- benefit for patients around the world.’
