”Leadership looks different when you are the person waiting for care.
From a meeting room, a health policy can look complete. From the waiting room, you see things differently.
- You notice when the medicine you came for is not available.
- You notice when you have to travel far for a service.
- You notice when you are sent from one place to another looking for care.
- You notice when nobody asks what happens after treatment.
As someone who has lived through cancer and sat with other survivors, I have learned that the success of a health policy is not found in the document.
It is found in the experience of the person who needs it. The decisions made in boardrooms, government offices and conference rooms eventually reach someone’s life.
The question is whether they reach it in the way they were intended to. This Global Week for Action on NCDs, let’s keep the person at the centre of the decisions we make.
Good leadership should be visible where it matters most ….in people’s lives.”
