Partha Basu: IARC Framework for Scaling Up Cancer Early Detection Programs

Partha Basu, Head of the Early Detection, Prevention and Infections Branch at International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), shared on LinkedIn:

“Protocol for systematic capacity assessment of health systems prior to introduction or scaling up of any new intervention in cancer early detection is a unique contribution of IARC – International Agency for Research on Cancer / World Health Organization implementation research.

We started with CervScreen-SARA protocol used for improving coverage of vulnerable populations in Europe to HPV detection -based cervical screening as part of CBIG-SCREEN project.

Subsequently the same protocol was adapted for use in SHE-CAN project aiming to pilot implementation of HPV screening in rural and tribal Indian women and in ACCI project to improve early detection of common cancers in three states in India. The latest publication in e-ClinicalMedicine highlights the adaptation of the same protocol prior to pilot implementation of prostate cancer screening across Europe. The tools and protocols are freely available online.”
