Partha Basu: European Guidelines on Cervical Cancer

Partha Basu, Head of the Early Detection, Prevention and Infections Branch at IARC – International Agency for Research on Cancer / World Health Organization, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“The Expert Working Group for the European Commission Initiative on Cervical Cancer – a project led by IARCInternational Agency for Research on Cancer / World Health Organization in collaboration with Joint Research Center of the European Commission just published the cervical screening recommendations for vaccinated populations. The experts suggest a de-intensified screening approach for birth cohorts in which HPV vaccination coverage is more than 50%. In these settings, screening intervals may be safely extended to 10 years after a negative HPV test result.

These findings are based on mathematical modelling of 118 800 simulated screening strategies done by Dr. Iacopo Baussano and his team at IARC. A big thank to all our experts and especially to Dr Nathalie Broutet, Dr. Amir Qaseem, Dr. Kati (Katayoun) Taghavi for their great contributions.
