Three Weeks of Learning, Discussion, and Scientific Exchange Come to a Close – PAPERI

Pan-African PGS Education and Research Initiative (PAPERI) shared a post on LinkedIn:

“PAPERI–Ensembl Genome Browser Workshop | Cohort 2 — Successfully Completed!

Today, we concluded the second edition of the PAPERI–Ensembl Genome Browser Workshop, bringing three weeks of learning, discussion, and scientific exchange to a close.

From the first session to today’s final Q&A, it has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm, thoughtful questions, and active participation from researchers across Africa.
And once again, the response to this initiative has been remarkable — Cohort 2 reached full capacity within just 24 hours of opening applications.

This strong interest reflects the growing demand for practical genomics and bioinformatics training across the continent.

A special congratulations to our three African Training Leaders:

  • Elena Lukhere — Introduction to the Ensembl Genome Browser and Retrieving Genomic Sequences
  • Ally Ipandaa — Variant Annotation and Interpretation Using Ensembl and VEP
  • Chiraz MEHEMMAI — Navigating the Epigenome with Ensembl Regulation

Thank you for your dedication, preparation, and commitment to sharing your knowledge with fellow researchers. Your leadership is at the heart of this initiative.
We are also deeply grateful to Ensembl Outreach for the continued support, scientific guidance, and mentorship throughout the programme.

A special thank you to Dr. Jorge Batista Da Rocha, Louisse Paola Mirabueno, and Aleena M S. for their continued engagement and support of our Training Leaders and participants.

This collaboration continues to demonstrate what is possible when international expertise and African scientific leadership come together:

Train → Mentor → Lead → Enable

The goal is not simply to deliver training, but to strengthen the capacity of African scientists to lead high-quality scientific education within their own communities.

And to all our participants — thank you for showing up, asking questions, engaging in the discussions, and making these sessions meaningful. Your curiosity and commitment are what make this community grow.

Sharing a few moments from our final session.

This is not the end — it is another step forward in building a stronger, connected, and sustainable genomics community across Africa.

PAPERI × Ensembl Outreach.”
