Pamela Abdayem: Had the Pleasure of Presenting 2 Abstracts on Lung Cancer Prevention at ESMO 2026

“Today at ESMO26, I had the pleasure of presenting 2 abstracts on lung cancer prevention, highlighting the importance of precision prevention and health equity.

  • Lung cancer prevention in people with severe mental illness: Wonderful collaboration with Malasi SONETHAVY from CMP Choisy-le-Roi and CPTS OCTAV; we are working to improve access to prevention through dedicated, one-stop health checks at Tiers Lieu Interception for this vulnerable population, facing greater tobacco exposure and comorbidity burden.
  • Second primary lung cancers in childhood cancer survivors: With our paediatric oncology colleague Brice Fresneau and the radiation epidemiology team we showed a 2.7-fold higher incidence of lung cancer in childhood cancer survivors compared with the French general population.
  • With a median age of 49 at diagnosis of lung cancer, and an association with smoking and higher previous radiation doses to the lung, these findings highlight the need to explore personalized lung cancer screening strategies for this high-risk population.

One size does not fit all. The future of cancer prevention lies in tailored strategies that address individual risks and ensure that no vulnerable population is left behind.

Special thanks to Jeanne Duval, Camélia Bellemou and Dorian Bochaton.”
