Oliver Bogler, CEO of the Night Science Institute, shared on LinkedIn:
“You arrive on Monday already behind.
Two manuscripts to review. A progress report due. Three student meetings. A committee that was supposed to take forty minutes.
You worked through the weekend and it made no visible difference.
The thing that wears people down at this stage is rarely the volume of work. It is the absence of closure. Nothing gets finished, it just gets displaced by the next thing.
That is a structural feature of mid-career faculty life, not a personal failing. Which matters, because you cannot discipline your way out of a structural problem.”
