Oksana Sulaieva: Pathology Level Up Has Started Today in Kyiv

Oksana Sulaieva, Professor at Ukrainian Research and Practical Centre of Endocrine Surgery, Head of Department of Histopathology at Laboratory of Pathology CSD Health Care, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“I am thrilled to announce that Pathology Level Up has started today in Kyiv.

This training for pathologists was organized by the Ukrainian Association for Precision Medicine, with financial support from AstraZeneca Ukraine, to empower pathologists and advance precision oncology in Ukraine. This educational initiative is focused on modern approaches to the management of patients with metastatic breast cancer, international recommendations for HER2 assessment and interpretation, and the development of practical skills through the analysis of both routine and complex clinical cases.

Today, the pathologist is an essential partner of oncologists in the diagnostics and personalized treatment of cancer patients. This role requires deep expertise in histopathological diagnostics and accurate interpretation of predictive biomarkers. In breast cancer, contemporary treatment strategies require not only a clear distinction between HER2-positive and HER2-negative tumors, but also precise identification of HER2-low and HER2-ultralow status, as these categories increasingly influence therapeutic decision-making.

Today, we discussed the evolution of HER2 assessment in breast cancer, the impact of the pre-analytical phase on immunohistochemistry results, the clinical relevance of HER2 status in patient management, identification and interpretation of HER2-low and HER2-ultralow categories, and the importance of quality control at the pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical stages. The training is designed not only to update knowledge but also to strengthen the practical competencies required for accurate HER2 evaluation and interpretation in everyday pathology practice.

Pathology Level Up offers motivated professionals an opportunity to expand their expertise and remain aligned with the latest advances in diagnostic pathology and precision oncology.”
