Norman Ng: A Legacy of Medicine and Motherland – Reflections on My Parents’ Journey

Norman Ng, Director of Patient Advocacy and Public Affairs at Healthcare Thinkers, shared a post on LinkedIn:

A Legacy of Medicine and Motherland: Reflections on My Parents’ Journey

This faded photograph captures the essence of my parents’ youth. My father, Dr. Ng Hon-lam (from Hong Kong), and my mother, Dr. Wong Chau-Yuk (an overseas Chinese from Malaysia), met while studying at Sun Yat-Sen University of Medical Sciences in Guangzhou.

The monument behind them marks the historical site where Dr. Sun Yat-Sen studied medicine and began planning the revolution. From a young age, my parents taught me to “love your motherland” – a sentiment deeply rooted in my heart.

Now in my sixties, I remain filled with gratitude. Seeing the establishment of good communication across the Strait brings me joy. I look forward to peaceful reunification and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.”
