Nils Nicolay, Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Leipzig Medical Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“People get older, and cancer patients get older – but how to optimize treatment for these older cancer patients?
This question has been a long-standing focus of our research group.
Therefore, I am very happy to announce that the Deutsche Krebshilfe has just approved a large research grant for the prospective SENIOR research proposal (“Escalating and de-escalating radiotherapy for elderly patients with head-and-neck cancers – toward personalized (chemo)radiation concepts.”), that Alexander Rühle and I will be coordinating.
We are honoured and proud that all German University radiation oncology departments (and many more RadOnc centers) have committed themselves to participation in this innovative project, and we are very much looking forward to the next step of improving cancer care for the elderly.”
