Muna Al-Khaifi: Fertility Preservation Guidance from Leading Oncology Organizations

Muna Al-Khaifi, Lead of Breast Cancer Survivorship Program and GP oncologist, Skin Cancer Clinic at Sunnybrook, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“I am honored to lead this review, “Comparison of Fertility-Related Recommendations Across International Cancer Guidelines for Adults With Newly Diagnosed Cancer Considering Fertility Preservation,” has been published at JCO Journal of Oncology Practice

In this paper, we systematically compare fertility preservation guidance from leading oncology organizations (NCCN, ASCO, COSA, and ESMO), focusing on:

  •  Early, patient-centered discussions about fertility risk before treatment
  •  Standard and emerging fertility preservation options for women and men
  •  Roles of ovarian and testicular preservation strategies
  •  Multidisciplinary care and referral pathways
  •  Guidance on future pregnancy and contraception

Our work highlights strong international consensus on core preservation methods and early counseling, while identifying areas where more high-quality evidence is needed to improve clinical guidance.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to my outstanding student — Jashmira Bhinder — for her excellent contributions to this project.”
