MMCI Welcomes European Colleagues to Brno for the EUnetCCC Guidelines Exchange Program

Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute (MMCI) shared on LinkedIn:

“On October 8, we welcomed colleagues from European cancer centers to a meeting within the EUnetCCC – European Network of Comprehensive Cancer Centers Guidelines Exchange Program.

Guidelines, i.e. clinical guidelines, are the basis of uniform and high-quality care, and their sharing is one of the main goals of building a European network of comprehensive cancer centers.

We presented how we create guidelines in our country, implement them in everyday practice and how we monitor whether they are followed.

Among the guests were Claes Jönsson, the head of the WP8 Guidelines task and his colleagues Johanna Höstner and Peter Naredi from Sahlgrensko CCC in Gothenburg and Cátia Faustino from IPO Porto.

Representatives from the University Hospital for Active Treatment in Oncology in Sofia (Boryana Genova), the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana (Jasna But Hadzic, Nataša Puzić Ravnjak and Urška Rugelj) and the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology in Barcelona (Dimelza Osorio Sánchez, Alexandra Giraldo Marin and Francesc Salvà Ballabrera and Ena Niño-de-Guzman Quispe) also came to Brno.

Patient representatives from Oslo University Hospital and the Norwegian Cancer Society Roy Aleksander Farstad and Nina Adolfsen arrived from Oslo.

The IOU was represented by Marek Svoboda, Igor Kiss, Alexandr Poprach, Tomáš Kazda and Kateřina Chodákova, who presented our experience and discussed with guests the incorporation of guidelines into clinical practice and patient journeys, cooperation between centers and networks in unifying implementation, compliance with the guidelines and what helps and what hinders.

Furthermore, quality indicators for measuring the impact of guidelines, patient involvement and equity in cancer care were addressed.

Special thanks go to Petra Adámková from the Voice of Cancer Patients, who participated as a patient representative. It is the patients’ perspective that shows how the guidelines work in practice.

Thank you for a pleasant meeting, we are glad that MOÚ has been chosen as a model institution in the field of guidelines.”

To which, Jasna But Hadzic, Head of Department of Oncology at Faculty of Medicine University of Ljubljana, added:

“Many thanks to our colleagues at Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute for the warm hospitality and a truly inspiring meeting!

It was a great opportunity to exchange experiences with colleagues from across Europe, share both good practices and challenges, and learn from each other.

Understanding not only what works, but also what doesn’t, is essential for improving the implementation of clinical guidelines and ultimately patient care.

This is exactly what makes the EUnetCCC Guidelines Exchange Program so valuable – learning from each other and moving forward together.

Thank you to everyone for the open discussions and wonderful collaboration!”
