Milan Mishkovikj: Extraordinary Beginning of European Liver Screening Week

Milan Mishkovikj, Vice-President, Program Manager, and Volunteer at Hepar Centar Bitola, and Board Director at ELPA, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“What an extraordinary beginning to European Liver Screening Week — two unforgettable days that also marked World Heart Day. Tomorrow, we step into Liver Cancer Awareness Month with even greater determination.

The liver and the heart are deeply connected:

  • MASLD, MASH, and obesity increase the risk of both cardiovascular disease and liver cancer.
  • Hepatitis B, C, D, alcohol-related disease, and rare conditions like Alpha-1, PBC, PSC, Wilson’s, and autoimmune hepatitis can all lead to liver cancer and even transplantation.

This is why early detection and accessible screening are not just important — they are lifesaving. As one friend told us today: Take matters into your own hands.

In just two days, under the patronage of the European Parliament, with the support of the European Commissioner for Health, MEPs, cabinet members, and EU staff — and with two screening vans for the third year in a row — we’ve already screened an incredible number of people!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who made this possible.
Now it’s YOUR turn: get checked, take control, and protect your (liver) health.

Together, we raise awareness.
Together, we change futures.
Together, we save lives.”
