“It was a privilege to travel to Mozambique this week, alongside our UT MD Anderson Global Oncology team members and collaborators, under the leadership of Kathleen Schmeler, to advance research and education. and our shared commitment to cervical cancer elimination.
During our visit, we had the privilege of holding a preinvasive cervical cancer training course in Chókwè for local clinicians in collaboration with Carla Nhassengo and team and the Mozambique Ministry of Health. This was an important opportunity to support capacity building and expand expertise in cancer prevention.
We were also excited to mark the launch of the new NIH-funded PROMETA study in collaboration with Tulane University and Universidade Eduardo Mondlane led by Troy Moon to advance HPV Self-Collection efforts. In addition, it was inspiring to see the continued momentum of two ongoing NIH-funded studies: the PHIL study, in collaboration with CISPOC INS – DPCM and Maputo Central Hospital (MCH), and AVANCO, a collaboration among Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, MCH, and our collaborators in Brazil.
