Michelle Mitchell: Accelerating Progress in Cancer Research for Children and Young People

Michelle Mitchell, Chief Executive at Cancer Research UK, shared on LinkedIn:

“As the biggest charitable funder of research into children’s and young people’s cancers in the UK, our research has helped more than double children’s cancer survival over the last 50 years in the UK. But progress hasn’t been fast enough. Too many young lives are still lost to cancer and many of those who survive face life – changing and long – term side effects from their treatment.

At todays Cancer Research UK (CRUK) staff talk, alongside Iain Foulkes, Laura Danielson and Nick Grant, we discussed our bold ambition to change that, rethinking how better, more tailored treatments are discovered, developed and made available, and how we work with partners across the research ecosystem to accelerate progress for generations to come.

The dedication, expertise and commitment that colleagues and partners bring to our mission is inspiring and every day we’re finding new ways to make a difference for people aged 0 – 24 affected by cancer.

I want to extend special thanks to John, a member of our Cancer Research UK for Children. Young People Insights Panel, for sharing his experience with us at the event. Hearing directly from the people who help shape our work behind the scenes shows the difference we can make when we listen, learn and collaborate.”
