Michael Sapienza: Curing Certain Cancers Within a Decade is a Realistic Goal

Michael Sapienza, Chief Executive Officer of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Last night, I had the privilege of attending The Economic Club of Washington, D.C.’s signature dinner honoring Johnson and Johnson Chairman and CEO Joaquin Duato. It was an evening that felt particularly meaningful for our work at the Colorectal Cancer Alliance.

David M Rubenstein led a wide-ranging conversation with Duato on healthcare innovation, the future of pharma, and what bold corporate leadership looks like in this moment. But one line really hit home for me:

‘Curing certain cancers within a decade is a realistic goal.’

That is exactly what we are building toward with Project Cure CRC.

Being in that room also mattered for another reason. We are actively working to build bipartisan support for the Asal Sayas National Strategy on Young Adult Cancers Act – newly introduced legislation that would create a coordinated federal strategy for the cancers that disproportionately affect people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. Young adult colorectal cancer rates have been rising for decades. This Act is a step toward changing that trajectory.

When industry leaders, policymakers, and advocates are aligned around the same north star – ending cancer – progress becomes possible. Last night felt like evidence of that alignment, and we’re here for it!”
