“$2 BILLION bet on the future of oncology!
AstraZeneca has completed its $2B investment in Summit Therapeutics, Inc., acquiring ~12% equity and making a major commitment to ivonescimab (PD-1/VEGF bispecific antibody).
What’s next?
- Ivonescimab + Dato-DXd: Planned Phase 3 development in first-line TNBC.
- Ivonescimab + sonesitatug vedotin: CLDN18.2-directed ADC combination in GI cancers.
- Additional ADC combinations across solid tumors.
The bigger picture: ADCs are increasingly becoming treatment backbones. Could combining them with next-generation bispecific immunotherapies further improve outcomes?
I think this is a great investment. The biology is compelling, particularly with VEGF inhibition potentially reshaping the tumor microenvironment especially in triple negative breast cancer. But efficacy, toxicity, and patient selection remain key questions. Can they outperform the newest frontline options?
Are ADC + bispecific combinations the next major evolution in oncology? I think so. Look forward to seeing these trials in the not so far away future!”
