Martha Wanjiru: Community Outreach Advances Cervical Cancer Screening and HPV Vaccination

Martha Wanjiru, Nurse Educator and ToT in Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening and Treatment of Precancerous Lesions Screening, Cervical Advocate and Champion Kiambu County, Kenya, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Today we conducted a comprehensive health screening outreach in Madharau Umoja Slums, Thika, offering services including breast cancer screening, cervical cancer screening, fistula screening, other NCD screenings, family planning, HPV vaccination, SHA registration, and treatment of minor illnesses.

This outreach supports the WHO 90-70-90 strategy towards cervical cancer elimination:

  • 90% of girls fully vaccinated with the HPV vaccine by age 15.
  • 70% of women screened with a high-performance test by age 35 and again by 45.
  • 90% of women identified with cervical disease receiving appropriate treatment and care.

The outreach highlighted the importance of taking healthcare services closer to the community and investing more in prevention, early detection, treatment, and awareness creation. Together, we can save lives through education, vaccination, screening, and timely care.

Let us continue investing in preventive healthcare and community awareness because prevention is better than cure.”
